Stories From an Unlikely Life

I'm Not a Writer

I am an old soldier who, like all old soldiers, loves to tell his stories.  With more time on my hands, I am writing them down.

These are the stories that I have told over the years plus a few I may never have, the fun tales, not the ones I couldn't tell Mom.

I have always tried to relate them as they happened.  When my buddies and I get together, we laugh about remembering details differently.  That's probably normal but these are my stories; let them write their own.

I've often asked myself how an Alabama boy gets to do such things.  I've never been able to answer that question.  Perhaps the Fates love a Fool.

Enjoy my ridiculous life.

"Hemingway didn’t know he was Ernest Hemingway when he was a young man.  Faulkner didn’t know he was William Faulkner.  But they had to take the first step. They had to call themselves writers. That is the first revolutionary act a writer has to make. It takes courage. But it’s necessary.”  ~ Pat Conroy
